Kyoto's Protocol is a binding adopted by legal the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on December 11, 1997. 

Its objective is to get to reduce greenhouse effect global gases emissions on 5.2% over 1990 levels for 2008-2012 period. (subject to prolongation), through the Clean Development Mechanism or CDM.

The CDM is the procedure where all developed countries finance projects to mitigate Greenhouse type gases emissions on developing countries, and in exchange they receive Emission Reduction Certificates(ERC) applicable to its commitment with Kyoto's Protocol or to commercial aims.

CDM Projects must fulfill the stablished requirements by the Executive Council of the Clean Development Mechanism.
